Daniel and Priya (names changed) live in a Victorian terrace in south London. His sleep was fine. Hers had fallen apart within weeks of rearranging the bedroom — and the arrangement was his idea, made after reading about "facing your best direction."
He wasn't wrong about his direction. He was wrong about whose bedroom it was.
What the chart showed
Daniel, born 1988, is Kua 3 — East group. His four favourable directions: Sheng Qi (vitality) South, Tian Yi (health) North, Yan Nian (relationships) Southeast, Fu Wei (stability) East.
Priya, born 1991, is Kua 6 — West group. Hers: Sheng Qi West, Tian Yi Northeast, Yan Nian Southwest, Fu Wei Northwest.
Now the collision, and it is total: the headboard he had proudly moved to the South wall sits on his Sheng Qi — and on her Jue Ming, the single worst direction her chart has. He was sleeping on his best star. She was sleeping on her "severed fate." Run both charts side by side with Kua Compatibility and the East/West split is the first thing it names.
The classical logic: rank the harms
A mixed East–West couple has no direction that is good for both — the two groups' luck maps are mirror images. The Eight Mansions answer is not to search for a perfect wall that doesn't exist; it is to rank the afflictions. Jue Ming is the gravest, Huo Hai (mishaps) the mildest. So you look for the wall that gives one partner something real while costing the other only Huo Hai.
For this couple that wall is the Southeast: Daniel's Yan Nian — the relationship direction, fitting for a marital bed — and merely Huo Hai for Priya. Every alternative was worse: East is her Wu Gui, North her Liu Sha, West his Jue Ming.
What was done
- Headboard moved from South to Southeast. His relationship star carries the bed; her exposure drops from worst-possible to mildest-possible. (Bed Direction confirms the ranking.)
- Desks separated by person, not by room aesthetics. His work desk now faces South (his Sheng Qi); her desk faces West (hers). Sheng Qi belongs at the desk, where you act — the bed is for rest, not striving.
- Nothing bought. This entire case is furniture and floor plan. Feng Shui spends money only after it has spent geometry.
What changed
Her sleep recovered over three weeks — unsurprising, since the change removed the one placement her chart calls catastrophic. The quieter result was his: work conversations at the South-facing desk went easier than they had at the old, awkwardly-angled one. The texts would say Sheng Qi; a sceptic would say a man finally facing his window instead of a wall. The classical position is comfortable with both readings.
